A
new citizen, a tourist or a temporary resident (one who has been out of
the country for at least one entire year), are allowed to drive in
Israel with a valid foreign drivers license, for a period of one year
beginning on the day of his arrival in Israel, in a vehicle that he is
permitted to drive as stated on his license, as long as he is of the
legal age to drive. In the event of multiple exits and entries into
Israel, he will be tested in driver theory. For a temporary resident, a
foreign driver`s license is valid only if it has been issued at least
six months before his entry into Israel.
For
a vehicle that is a motorcycle up to 500 cc (0.5 l) , a private
vehicle, or a light truck up to 15 tons, every driver`s license given
in Israel must be accompanied by a driving test. One can be tested
twice on the particular vehicle being tested on. After failing the
driving test twice, the applicant must be tested again on driver theory
and a driving test, but does not need to take any driving classes.
A
valid Israeli driver`s license will be given if the minimum age of 17
(for a private vehicle) has been reached. An applicant, who is under
the age of 17, will receive a valid driver`s license when he is 17
years old or older.
A
new citizen must present an eye test, a foreign drivers license and a
copy of his driver`s license, a medical report, his Israeli ID (Teudat
Zehut) and his Teudat Oleh.
It
is possible to transfer a foreign driver`s license to an Israeli
license for up to three years of his arrival in Israel (this is
possible only if the foreign driver`s license was given before his
status as a new citizen and before his entry into Israel).
A
temporary resident must present an eye test, his foreign driver`s
license, a copy of his driver`s license, a medical report, passport and
permission of residency in Israel.
A
returning Israeli resident is required to present an eye test, a
medical report, his foreign driver`s license, a copy of his foreign
driver`s license, any identifying document, and a passport with
detailed stamps identifying his entries and exits from Israel. He can
transfer his foreign driver`s license within a year of his arrival in
Israel on the condition that the applicant resided outside of Israel
for at least six months and his foreign driver`s license has been valid
for at least six months.
A
tourist (also for those who do not have an Israeli identity number) can
present his foreign driver`s license, permission to reside in Israel (a
visa for 3 months at least), an eye test, a medical report and a valid
foreign driver`s license.
