If you had a Yahoo account in Israel or the US between 2012 and 2016, you may be eligible to receive a $100 payout as part of the class action settlement against Yahoo for breaches of data security.
Here is what I found out:
1. There is indeed a class action settlement against Yahoo. The deadline for filing a claim is July 20, 2020.
2. The settlement is for $117.5 million and 3 billion Yahoo users were potentially affected. Settlement fee payouts are up to $358 per person.
3. "According to the settlement, anyone who received a notice about the data breaches, or had a Yahoo account at any time between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2016 and was a resident of the United States or Israel is eligible to file a claim."
4. "If Yahoo users can verify that they already have a credit monitoring service that they will keep for at least one year, they can submit a claim for a cash payment of $100..."
5. "...you can ask for a cash payment of $100 as long as you verify that you’ve already signed up for a credit-monitoring service. There are plenty of free credit-monitoring services online — including Credit Karma — that you can quickly sign up for if you choose this option."
