About Kfar Adumim:
A common community for religious and secular people, unlike the city, where there are mostly only neighborly relations.
Already in its first years, the village received many new immigrants, most of whom remain there to this day.
Families of continuing sons also live in the settlement.
In the village there is a semi-Olympic swimming pool (25 meters long) un covered.
The settlement also has an extensive system of classes managed by the community and culture coordinator.
In 1987 Kfar Adumim was awarded the Knesset Speaker’s Quality of Life Award,
for “promoting and encouraging patience, tolerance, mutual respect and understanding
and good neighborliness in education and in practice.”
From Ideal, the children of the settlement attend a common school – the experimental MMD school in Kfar Adumim. The school belongs to the religious state education stream – MMD, but it is a mixed school for religious and secular people and adapted to the needs of everyone. The school has more than seven hundred students in grades 1-8 who mostly come from the settlements of Kfar Adumim, Alon and Nofi Perat.
The purpose of the settlement was not only to maintain a common communal way of life for religious and secular people but also for “all of Israel” (as defined by the founders).
That is why there is one central synagogue for the settlement that combines prayer in both the Eastern and Ashkenazi versions. With the expansion of the settlement, more minyans were added in the neighborhoods far from the synagogue – where the prayer is also all-Israeli and the wording of the prayer is determined by the cantor who recites that prayer. During the Corona period, the main minyan split and sub-minyans developed not only according to distance from the synagogue, but also according to different versions of the prayer.
Most of the residents work in Jerusalem, and a minority are employed within the village.
Branches of work in the settlement:
Education and the various branches of services: secretarial, consumer, pool.
A clean crafts building with offices and workshops from a goldsmith’s factory to a hair salon.
The heavy craft area with various factories such as a factory for canning olives, a blacksmith shop, carpentry, a blue factory, a gas station and two garages.
In agriculture – in the settlement there is an olive vineyard, orchard, a nursery, a kennel and a horse farm.
The streets of the village were given names. Some of them are related to the animals and plants in the area of the settlement, and some are related to the history and ideology of the settlement (for example, “Am Ahad” street symbolizes the fact that the settlement is mixed for religious and secular people, and “Derech Euphrates” street is named after the nearby Euphrates river).
