This week’s shiur: Maimonides’ Curriculum for the Study of the Torah
Synopsis: According to the Talmud one should divide his time for Jewish studies into 3 parts: Torah, Mishnah and Talmud. In this class we will take a journey through the writings of Rambam, Rav Yosef Karo (Shulchan Aruch) and Rav Moshe Isserles (Rema) to understand their interpretation of this Talmudic instruction and their curriculum for Torah studies, which reflect 3 different philosophical approaches. The analysis is based on Rav Prof. Isadore Yitzchak Twersky's "Some non-halakhic aspects of the Mishneh Torah" in "Jewish Medieval and Renaissance Studies," Alexander Altman (ed).
