Reflections on how Jewish American writers have represented Israel in their literature throughout the twentieth century and first decades of the twenty-first, from Mary Antin, Leon Uris, Saul Bellow and Philip Roth to Nicole Krauss, Michael Chabon, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Nathan Englander.
HANA WIRTH-NESHER is Professor Emerita of English and American Studies at Tel Aviv University, and Founding Director of the Goldreich Family Institute for Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture.
Her research interests range from American and British modernism to ethnic American writing and Jewish literature.
Her publications include City Codes: Reading the Modern Urban Novel, Call It English: the Languages of Jewish American Literature, What is Jewish Literature? and The Cambridge History of Jewish American Literature.
