Professor Hezi Levi will remain in office until a replacement is found, after which he will resume his position as director of Ashkelon's Barzilai Medical Center.

Israeli Health Ministry Director-General Hezi Levi informed Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz on Sunday that he is resigning and will resume his position as director of the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.

Levi said he will stay on until a replacement is named and will ensure a smooth transition of the office, adding he will continue to pursue all efforts to reduce coronavirus morbidity.

Horowitz thanked Levi for his service, saying he had “volunteered to serve as the ministry’s director general during one of the most challenging periods in the Israeli healthcare system. Hezi has served the State of Israel with great professionalism, and I am sure he will continue to contribute his skills to the public health system.”
