We will be restarting the Movie Matinee program at Beit Knesset Hanassi. On December 26, we will present the documentary we had postponed. The film is “The Green Prince”.
This is truly a “life-is-stranger-than-fiction” documentary. The film provides this history: the son of one of the founders of Hamas was successfully turned into an informant for the Shin Bet! The information he revealed to his handler saved the lives of countless Israeli citizens.
Mosab Hassan Yousef,
eldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founder and leader of Hamas,
was caught running guns as a teenager and imprisoned by Israel. The
Shin Bet was able to recruit him.
The story would have remained one of the best-guarded secrets of Israeli history had Mosab himself not voluntarily revealed his actions. After retiring as an Israeli undercover asset, he emigrated to the United States. It was there, apparently considering himself safe from Hamas retaliation, that he told his amazing story.
The history that gradually unfolds throughout this film is full of unexpected twists and intense political intrigue and family drama.
This excellent film
won numerous awards including the Best Documentary from the Israel
Film Academy in 2014.
The Movie Matinee is
at 2:00. The film is in English with English subtitles. It is 1¾
