We just got back from the American Consulate where we renewed our American passports. We arrived at 8:00am where we found 6 people ahead of us in line.
The Consulate does not open their doors until 8:30am. Bring with you your old passports, passport pictures, social security number (they are asking for this now), and either an American credit card, or cash to pay for the passports. There is a courier service that will bring the passports to your house for a 45 NIS. You would need to go up a flight of stairs to pay for this service. If you are not able to climb stairs, bring someone with you who can. Or bring a pre-stamped envelop in order to have the new passports sent to you. Ask your local postal office how this works. I am not familiar with this service.
