WBAIS and Israel:

Established under the auspices of the American Embassy in 1958, The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel (WBAIS) is a MSA accredited, fully independent, co-educational Pre-K - 12 international school offering an American program leading to a US high school diploma.

With a present enrollment of approximately 600 students representing over 40 nationalities, AIS Israel is a diverse and vibrant community. Approximately 40% of AIS students are American, 40% from countries all over the world, and 20% Israelis.

In 2008 WBAIS moved to its current state-of-the-art 19-acre campus was opened in 2007 and is located in the town of Even Yehuda, a residential community approximately 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv. The purpose-built campus includes four separate divisions, a performing arts building with 400-seat auditorium, full gym, cafeteria, library and media center, athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, and an olympic-sized pool.

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Network Administrator’s role is to plan and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT assets and quick recovery from unavoidable interruptions. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. The Network Administrator will work with the Director of Technology to ensure that equipment is maintained throughout the school and that software is up and running and responsive to the needs of the educational community throughout the year.

Reports to: Director of Technology

Interfaces with: Students, faculty, staff, and the WBAIS Community.

Job Capacity: 100%

Hours: Daily from 7:30 – 4:30, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 to 3:30 on Friday.
The focus of the position is task oriented and the hours may be extended from time to time dependent on the task.
Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines. On-call availability for emergency issues.

Start Date: Earliest estimated start is August 1, 2021 or thereafter, when the right candidate is found.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Network Administrator acts under the Director of Technology’s direction. The Network Administrator may employ the assistance of outside expertise, in consultation with the Director of Technology, but is responsible for the following:

● Manage and ensure optimal operation of all computers, software, network hardware (e.g. cisco switches and IP phone system), equipment, etc.

● Manage and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.

● Monitor and troubleshoot network performance.

● Administer and maintain the Linux and Windows servers and networks.

● Research solutions to technology problems including new hardware and software technologies to support educational missions, update and maintain IT infrastructure.

● Maintain Public Announcement (PA) System and Backup systems.

● Maintain records on the configuration, installation, warranty, licenses, and allocation of computer software, hardware, and/or network systems.

● Set up equipment in labs and classrooms for specific lessons as directed by the Director of Technology.

● Assist Director of Technology in inventory control, purchasing of new technology equipment, and planning.

● Maintain central printing system and troubleshoot printer problems.

● Manage users, processes/services on servers.

● Professionally represent the school in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students and resolve conflict in a professional manner.

● Provide workshops to the school community.

● Other tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Director of Technology.

REQUIREMENTS:

● Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and minimum three years prior experience working as a Network Administrator.

● Must have demonstrated computer competency in a wide spectrum of functions including all aspects of Cisco networking, virtualization, Windows and Linux servers, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, backups, Cisco IP phone system. Experience with Mac OS/iOS and Google Workspace for Education environment preferred.

● Proven ability to configure network equipment, like routers, switches, and access points.

● Proven experience with network capacity planning, network redundancy or high availability network, network security principles, and general network management best practices.

● Familiarity with LAN protocols and technologies (e.g., VRRP, STP, VTP, VLAN Trunking, Security Protocols)

● Understanding of the OSI Model

● Experience with monitoring solutions (Observium, Nagios), VPN (ssl, upn, IPSEC) and web filtering, IPS/IDS

● Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.)

● Technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and internet standards

● Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws

● Demonstrated ability to learn and apply computer technology skills rapidly.

● Works well with others from diverse backgrounds, strong customer service orientation.

● Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

● Ability to solve problems and think critically.

● Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English.

● Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents or staff.

● Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures.

● Ability to write reports and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before students and staff.
