The David Citadel, one of Jerusalem's classiest hotels, recently reopened its upscale Scala restaurant, after an extensive upgrade. The new look is classy, modern, and warm, with enough room to hold large family events.
The meat restaurant, located on the hotel's upper-level lounge, has everything you'd expect from a top venue, with a rich menu of meats, fish, wines, and creative appetizers and side dishes emphasizing local flavors. "
For our first course, the restaurant brought a very Jerusalemite spread of salads, including cauliflower with tehina, green felafel balls, Baladi eggplant with garlic and lemon, Tabbouleh salad with parsley and quinoa, hummus, amba, and lupin beans. This intro, which costs NIS 55 per person, would have been a delicious and satisfying meal by itself.
For the main course, I had the 300-gram entrecote steak with a bone marrow aioli, while my wife had a huge salmon fillet. Both were perfect in taste, presentation, and preparation. On the side, we chose potato and sweet potato chips, which were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and excellent. Prices actually seemed a bit lower than what comparable establishments charge for similar meals.
Service was friendly and efficient, and our sommelier suggested excellent wines to complement our meals.
We were too stuffed for dessert, but we enjoyed sipping glasses of tea and taking in the ambiance before heading home. We hope to come again soon.
