Josh Rubin’s Yam l Yam – Musings #7
Yes, I am 65.
Yes, I chose to walk 80k over five days.
Yes, my friends thought I was crazy.
Yes, it was challenging.
Yes, I slept all of Shabbat when the hike was over.
Yes, at some point I thought I couldn’t continue.
And
Yes, it was the group that picked me up.
At one point I thought, “isn’t 40k over three days enough walking!”
Yet my hiking buddy began a conversation with me.
After a while another hiking buddy picked up the conversation.
Soon 40k became 45k and the end of day three was in sight.
People saw me struggling.
There were words of encouragement.
“You got this girl” (I haven’t been called a girl in quite a while.)
“You are doing great!” (It was from an American with his annoying optimism-yet it was nice to hear)
There was an offer to carry my rugsack (From another American and I accepted.
The group.
I hiked with an amazing, caring, helpful group of people.
Yes, I a 65.
Yes, I walked 80k – Usually done over three days we did it in five.
Yes, my friends still think I am crazy.
But I DID IT- (I probably wouldn’t do it again.)
But I DID IT!!
