A group of 35 ultra-Orthodox officers have completed a three-month training course to become certified members of the Israel Police.
The group of all-male former yeshivah students enlisted at a time of mounting public ire over the lack of haredi conscription in the military, which has increased in the wake of the 15-month-old war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The new officers will take up positions throughout the force and in various fields, including technology, the police said on Monday.
The all-segregated, three-month training course for the religious sector is the sixth one police have carried out this year in an effort to integrate the former yeshivah students to work with their own communities, an Israel Police spokesman told JNS.
About 150 to 200 haredi men currently serve with another 50 slated to join a new police training course that begins next month.
