Hi.
With great pleasure, I announce the next Movie Matinee at Beit Knesset Hanassi. The film is CHARIOTS OF FIRE.
The movie is the
powerful, deeply moving, historically accurate drama of two British
runners preparing for the 1924 Olympics. Harold Abrahams is a
determined, somewhat resentful and extremely driven Jew who wants to
prove himself. Eric Liddell is a devout, uncompromising Christian
missionary. They are committed to bringing gold medals back to
Britain.
CHARIOTS OF FIRE is
a movie about struggle and challenges—the runners against each
other and against the athletes of the other nations; the Jew and the
Christian against a society where they are “the strange other”;
each of the runners against their own pride and conscience.
This superb film won
the Academy Award for Best Picture and three other Oscars in 1982 and
was nominated for three other Oscars.
The Movie Matinee is
on August 15 at 2:00. The film is in English with English subtitles.
It is 2 hours. In addition, there will be a brief introduction of the
film, a short talk and discussion after the screening and a handout
about the movie.
There will be
refreshments. No reservations are required. Beit Knesset Hanassi is
located at 24 Ussishkin Street. The admission is 20 shekels for
members of the shul and 30 shekels for non-members.
