WBAIS and Israel

Established under the auspices of the American Embassy in 1958, The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel (WBAIS) is a MSA accredited, fully independent, co-educational EY - 12 international school, which offers a robust program leading to a US high school diploma.

With a present enrollment of approximately 600 students representing over 40 nationalities, WBAIS Israel is a diverse and vibrant community. Approximately 30% of WBAIS students are American, 40% from countries all over the world, and 30% Israeli.

In 2008, WBAIS moved to its current 19-acre campus in the town of Even Yehuda, a residential community approximately 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv. The purpose-built campus includes four separate divisions, a performing arts building with a 400-seat auditorium, full gym, cafeteria, library and media center, athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, and an olympic-sized pool.

Position Objectives

Instructional assistant supports Teacher(s) to create a rich and responsive learning environment, and meet the individual needs of students in line with our school’s mission.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Guide practice according to the WBAIS Mission, Vision & Profile of a Learner, and embody the principles of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy.
  • Build meaningful relationships and dialogue with children in a warm and respectful manner that instills joy in learning and nurtures critical thinking, independence and a positive self-concept
  • Work alongside Early Years Teachers in the implementation of a child-centered program, with active support and participation in preparation, organization and supervision of stimulating learning experiences and environments.
  • Support learning experiences and investigations for groups of children throughout the school day. .
  • Work collaboratively to collect, display and disseminate documentation of children’s learning (careful observational notes and intentional photos, videos, and recordings).
  • As part of the team, supervise children during outdoor play, meal times, rest times, and assist with children’s personal hygiene and organizational needs.

Qualifications/Key Competencies

Skills:

  • Outstanding flexibility and collaboration in order to support the teachers role in the class;
  • Outstanding patience and understanding of the students in our EY classes in order to emotionally/socially/and developmentally support these students;
  • Outstanding communications skills in order to ensure that the students understand goals/objectives of the teachers


Knowledge:

  • Good knowledge/experience of the Reggio Emilia approach and understanding the self- directed and experiential nature of student learning in order to support the teachers;
  • Good knowledge of how group work and student collaboration contributes to the students development;
  • Solid understanding of the cultural diversity of WBAIS and its impact in learning with early years students
  • Solid knowledge of age appropriate technology, especially related to technology used at WBAIS.


Judgment:

  • Excellent judgment in ensuring that safety protocols are followed;
  • Solid judgment in understanding when and how the teacher should be involved in resolving student challenges;
  • Supports the teachers in various classroom management techniques.


Accountability:

  • Supporting the teachers in ensuring the participation/involvement levels for students in all activities is regularly encouraged and monitored;
  • Ensuring that students are following the instructions of the teachers and intervening when required to support the teachers


Position Expectations

Priority will be given to candidates who have experience:

  • College Degree preferred
  • Serving as an advisor/pastoral care role
  • Working with students with varying levels of English language fluency
  • Experience thinking and working with the Reggio Emilia Approach to early childhood education.
  • Collaborating in a co-teaching model
  • Contributing to student experiences beyond the classroom.
