I am pleased to announce the next Movie Matinee at Beit Knesset Hanassi. On Tuesday, May 21 we will present CAST A GIANT SHADOW.
The film is a
dramatization of the story of Israel’s War of Independence and of
the critical contributions of General Mickey Marcus, the first
general (Aluf) of the IDF. It vividly shows the impossible odds
faced by the outnumbered, out-equipped Israeli forces. It is a moving
portrayal of General Marcus’ commitment to the fledgling state and
of his military skills. It is also shows the courage and fighting
spirit of the Jews who refused to be defeated in the creation of
Eretz Yisrael.
The film has a
superb cast with Kirk Douglas as General Marcus and with John Wayne,
Frank Sinatra, Yul Brynner, Angie Dickinson and Senta Berger. CAST A
GIANT SHADOW also marks the English-language film debut of Topol.
The Movie Matinee is
at 2:00. The film is 2½ hours in length. Unfortunately there are not
English subtitles for those with hearing challenges. In addition,
there will be a brief introduction of the film, a short talk and
discussion after the screening and an essay about the movie provided
to all attendees.
There will be
refreshments. No reservations are required. Beit Knesset Hanassi is
located at 24 Ussishkin Street. The admission is 20 shekels for
members of the shul and 30 shekels for non-members.
